The geneticist Paula Hertwig - a pioneer in different fields

In the course of her scientific career Paula Hertwig (1889 - 1983) belonged to five faculties. During her Berlin days (until 1946) she worked in the Medical Faculty (in research and held a university teaching position), in the Faculty of Philosophy (where she was the first woman to receive the academic degree - "Habilitation" in Berlin in 1919) and in the Faculty of Agriculture (for 25 years she worked in an agricultural institute of genetics). In 1946 Paula Hertwig was summoned to take up a chair in biology in the Faculty of Medicine of the Martin Luther University in Halle. She was the first woman on the Board of this faculty. Furthermore, she gave lectures in the so-called "Workers and Peasants Faculty". She was elected a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina and of the Saxonian Academy of Sciences. In my lecture I will focus on her position in the Medical Faculty in Halle and in the Leopoldina Academy.
